Pokuasi is a socially responsible jewelry line started in November 2009 to create a stable source of revenue for the Ghana Sustainable Aid Project. All of the net profits
go to support GSAP projects within the same village, Pokuase, where the jewelry is produced.
Six women from Pokuase produce the jewelry according to Alyssa's designs, while Abigail
Mettle oversees the operation in Pokuase.
As an alternative trading organization, Pokuasi strives for self-sufficiency and sustainability in an industry that is often associated with
exploitative labor practices in developing countries.
Pokuasi creates opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers and increases capacity building through
transparent practices that offer fair prices to both consumers and producers. Pokuasi promotes creative
designing and critical thinking among the small group of women that extends into its position as a small,
honest, international business.
